Private support and security reports

In iCryptr, open Info & Help → Support → Contact Support. You can email the developer or copy the address into your mail service. Use this route for personal support, privacy questions, security reports, and requests to delete information you sent for support.

Include your iCryptr version, device and OS version, what happened, and the steps that caused the problem. Do not send passwords, encryption keys, personal files, private filenames, or sensitive screenshots.

Public bug reports

For a non-sensitive bug or suggestion, you can open a GitHub issue. A GitHub account is required to post. Anyone can read public issues, and copies may remain after you edit or delete a report. Send security reports privately through Contact Support in the app.

Common questions

I forgot my password. Can you recover my file?

No. iCryptr cannot reset your password or recover the file without it. Store your password safely and keep a separate, protected backup.

Where is my encrypted file?

iCryptr saves encrypted output in its Documents storage. On iPhone and iPad, look in Files → On My iPhone or On My iPad → iCryptr. Use the completion screen to save or share another copy. On Mac, use that screen to save the file to a Finder folder.

Where is my decrypted file?

After decryption, save the recovered file to a location you choose. Until you save it, the file is temporary. Discarding the file or closing its action screen removes the unsaved copy.

Does encryption delete the original?

No. iCryptr creates an encrypted copy. Originals in Photos, Files, cloud storage, and backups remain until you remove them using those services.

Before deleting an original, decrypt the encrypted copy and check that the recovered file opens correctly.

Why does decryption fail?

A wrong password or a damaged or modified encrypted file can prevent decryption. Check your password and make sure the file has finished downloading or copying. If needed, try a separate backup copy.

Keep the original and your backups while you investigate. iCryptr cannot repair damaged encrypted files.

Can I open a file on another device?

Yes. Transfer the .icryptr file to another supported iPhone, iPad, or Mac, open it in iCryptr, and enter the password used to encrypt it.

Does iCryptr upload my files?

The app does not upload files, passwords, or encryption keys to the developer. System file providers may download cloud files or upload copies you choose to save or share. Visiting this website connects to its host through your browser.

Read the Privacy Policy for details about local copies, cleanup, thumbnails, and voluntary support information.

What is inside an .icryptr file?

The container holds your encrypted file and original filename, plus the information iCryptr needs to decrypt and authenticate them with your password.

iCryptr uses Apple's CommonCrypto library for AES-256-CBC, PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with 750,000 rounds, and HMAC-SHA256 authentication.

The name you choose for the encrypted container, its size, and timestamps can remain visible. Encryption does not hide every kind of metadata.
